2022 Year in Review

As 2022 comes to a close, we’d like to take time to reflect on the opportunities we’ve been afforded in the past year. 2022 was another prosperous year for us at WTC thanks to our incredible employees and loyal customers. We take great pride in playing a positive role in the amazing communities we serve.

Let’s take a look back at a few highlights from the past year:

WTC turns 110:

2022 marked a significant milestone for the company, as we celebrated our 110 Year Anniversary! Employees, former employees, board members, and many more gathered to celebrate this achievement.

The celebration also featured the unveiling of a new plaque in our lobby to honor the late Junior Clark, who served as WTC’s General Manager for 38 years and served on our Board of Directors for 58 years.

We’re incredibly proud of our company’s history, and embrace the opportunity to carry out the legacy of those before us.

Watch Party Giveaway:

One of our favorite things to do is to give back to our supporters, and we make it a priority to do so several times a year. This past March, we attracted over 600 entries for a chance to win a free 70” TV just in time for March Madness!

Manhattan Apartments:

Since 2018, we’ve been connecting Manhattan apartments with our high-speed Fiber Internet. After an exceptional response from apartment renters, apartment owners, and property managers, we’ve been thrilled with our success in Manhattan apartments. In 2022 alone, we added 68 apartment complexes to our fiber optic network!

We’re proud to provide high-quality Internet service at an affordable price for Manhattan apartments.

WTC Fiber to Blue Township:

Over the past few years, construction crews have been hard at work extending our Fiber network into the Blue Township area on the East side of Manhattan.

It was the Timber Creek & Wildcat Woods subdivisions that received an upgrade to WTC Fiber this past spring as construction began in April. While the Wildcat Woods subdivision is currently in the cutover phase and residents are being transitioned to WTC’s network, residents in Timber Creek are already enjoying blazing-fast Internet speeds from a local company!

The NEW WTCtv:

Last summer, WTC Video customers became WTCtv customers as we released a new digital TV platform. This much-improved service provides numerous new features, including the ability to access WTCtv on phones, tablets, and streaming devices, anywhere with an Internet or data connection. WTCtv customers are enjoying the ability to watch their favorite channels and shows on the go!

WTC Wi-Fi+:

Another new service was introduced over the summer in the form of a mobile application: WTC Wi-Fi+! This platform allows WTC Internet customers greater control over their home network. With WTC Wi-Fi+, customers can view what devices are connected to their network, monitor Internet usage, run accurate speed tests, and more.

Broadband Acceleration Grant:

A cause that is extremely important to us at WTC is bridging the digital divide by taking our Fiber network to underserved Kansas communities. After a major announcement from Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and the Kansas Department of Commerce, we were able to uphold that mission in parts of rural Southwest Pottawatomie and rural Southeast Riley counties.

As one of 11 Kansas providers to receive Broadband Acceleration Grant funds, we began construction to bring WTC Fiber to Pott Co. and Riley Co. residents who previously did not have access to reliable Internet.

Gameday Giveaway:

We went back to our giving ways as the football season got underway by running another big social media giveaway.

One lucky fan of ours was awarded a K-State gameday package, complete with over $700 in prizes. This competition received over 230 participants across our social media platforms and allowed a randomly selected WTC customer to enjoy a 40-12 K-State victory over Missouri.

Meadowlark Hills Grant:

Through a partnership with WTC and CoBank, Meadowlark Hills Retirement Community was awarded a grant as part of the "Sharing Success" program. Our donation to Meadowlark's "Paving the Way" campaign will help toward enhancing the safety and accessibility of the loop trail which circles the Meadowlark Hills campus.

Delta Upsilon Gets 2 Gig:

As the school year began, we announced plans to deliver 2 Gigabit Internet speeds to Kansas State Delta Upsilon. This unprecedented bandwidth has enabled members of the DU fraternity to complete online studies and classwork inside the house, all at once, without the fear of their network slowing down or crashing.

We are excited about the partnership that has formed between WTC and various Greek houses at K-State!

WTC Family Day:

Over the summer, our employee team and their families gathered for our annual WTC Family Day. This year's gathering was filled with food, fun, and farm animals at Lazy T Ranch. It's always a treat to get our amazing team together outside the office!

Rossville Community Foundation Grant:

Through another partnership between WTC and CoBank, the Rossville Community Foundation was also awarded a grant as part of the "Sharing Success" program. Our donation has gone towards Rossville's Trail Project, where the Rossville Community Foundation and USD 321 are working together to establish exercise and recreational trails in and around their community.

5 Days of Giving:

Our final act of social media giving for 2022 came just before the holidays. We gave away one amazing prize per day each day, Monday through Friday. With over $700 in prizes awarded to 5 lucky winners, we received over 1,100 engagements across our social media pages.

We love giving back to those who keep up and engage with us on social media, and we look forward to giving away even more in 2023!

Kansas Capital Project Fund Broadband Grant:

In December, we were thrilled to receive word that we were awarded additional grant funds to bring Fiber to rural areas of Riley, Pottawatomie, Shawnee, and Geary counties.

Thanks to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly and the Kansas Capital Project Fund Broadband Grant Program facilitated by the Kansas Office of Broadband Development, this investment funding will allow us to build high-speed fiber broadband for communities in need. After construction is complete, 814 homes, businesses/farms, and public institutions will gain access to reliable Fiber Internet.

It was another fast and fun year at WTC, and we owe it all to our incredible employees, our loyal customers, and the amazing communities we’re fortunate enough to serve. From all of us at WTC, we want to say THANK YOU! You make our business possible, and we truly would not be where we are without our dedicated team and wonderful customers.

Thanks for reading, and we wish you a prosperous 2023!
