“Do you offer service in Manhattan?”
“When will you have fiber to my business?”
These are questions we get a lot these days. Fortunately, we are able to provide good news far more often than not.
Let’s take a look at how we got here.
The Past
In 2016, we officially broke ground on Phase 1 of a 10-phase fiber buildout to the businesses in Manhattan. This was easily one of the largest projects we’ve pursued in our company’s 109 year history.
Going in, we predicted we’d have our work cut out for us. After burying fiber in the narrow alleys of Poyntz and Aggieville or digging through miles of rock in the Grand Mere Village area, our hypothesis proved to be right. We did, in fact, have our work cut out for us. However, it wasn’t enough trouble to distract us from our end goal - to provide Manhattan businesses with state-of-the-art Fiber services.
As construction continued, we saw an opportunity to provide service to even more people in need. Using our newly established infrastructure, we were able to provide services to a few apartment complexes in the vicinity of our Fiber line. This number will continue to grow as we move ahead.
With every major construction endeavor, you’re bound to hit some bumps along the way. However, thanks to the City of Manhattan, Aggieville Business Association, Downtown Manhattan, and Westloop Business Association, we’ve been able to limit the nuisances that come with construction. A venture like this would not be possible without their cooperation.
The Present
Nowadays, due to the amazing response we’ve received from the Manhattan community, you’ll see WTC trucks all over the city and orange locate flags scattered about.
Five years after construction began, eight out of the 10 phases are complete. We are proudly serving over 830 business customers and hundreds of apartment occupants. Week in and week out, we get the opportunity to install service for new customers and work with growing businesses adding our managed services.
One detail that will always be found - past, present, and future - is our commitment to our customers. Though we’ve taken on new challenges in new places, we’re still invested in all the communities we serve, and will always go above and beyond to provide the best service and support possible. From Alma to Flush, Manhattan to Rossville, and many places in between, we always put the customer first.
The Future
So, what’s next?
Moving forward, we will be working on the last two phases of our fiber build to Manhattan businesses. First, we’ll finish up construction in the MHK Regional Airport area and then move to the North side of Tuttle Creek Blvd, around Blue Hills Shopping Center. Our goal is to have these phases wrapped up by the end of 2021.
Over the past year especially, we’ve all seen firsthand how crucial it is to have reliable broadband connection. It is our goal to bring this connection to as many people as possible to help close the digital divide.
Thank you, Manhattan, for welcoming WTC with open arms!
